Okay, so as always, let's start with a quick video first.
Okay, let's see our video.
[00:01:30] Speaker A: Hello everyone, I'm Loy and today I'm in Chongqing. I will explain the day of the week and months.
Let's begin with a verbs of time.
Today is Jing Tian, Tomorrow and yesterday.
Quite easy, right?
All of them shares the same character. It's the character which means day.
Now let's see the days of the week. Saying the days of the week is very simple. We say the word for week plus the number of the day of the week.
For example, Monday is the first day of the week.
So to say Monday, we say week one, Tuesday would be week two, and so on.
Let's practice it together.
How would you say Monday?
Very well. Xinqi on Thursday.
That's right.
You got the hang of it.
Sunday is the only exception. When we say Sunday, we don't say the number seven. Instead we say now we continue with the months.
They are also very easy to learn. You say the number of the month plus the word for month which is year.
For example, January is pronounced February and so on. Easy, right?
Well, now you know the names of the months practice together.
How would you say December?
Perfect. I'm sure you said in July.
That's right.
Now we will ask what day is today?
To ask the question, we need a particle we already know, T which is used to say how many.
In order to ask what day is today? The structure is like today be how many months, how many day.
And how do we answer that? By replacing for the current date.
Remember an important point in Chinese, the date follows a slightly different order than English. We first say the year, then the month and the day last.
Let's see it by answering the preview question. If today is June 9, 2020, then we will Erling Er, Lin Nian, Liu Yue Jiu Hao.
As you may have noticed the years go Number by number 2020 instead of 2020 or 2020.
Now it's your turn to practice.
Do you remember how to ask today's date?
That's right.
And how do we reply? Let's say for example, that today is August 15, 2006.
The correct answer is.
Perfect.
And when you need to know the day of the week.
For instance, if we want to know what day of the week is, tomorrow will ask.
That's right. We say week, how many?
How would you answer that? Well, as usual, we replace the question particle with the number of the day.
I say goodbye from Chongqing. The food here is very spicy, but I love it.
If you don't like spicy food, remember to say, I'm off to get a coco. Mmm, yummy.
[00:06:48] Speaker B: Okay, so very nice.
Let's do a quick recap from. From the video. What have we learned? Okay, so do you still remember how to say today, tomorrow, or yesterday?
Very well. So we have Jintian today, Ming Tian tomorrow, and which is yesterday? Very good.
Okay, and then how about week? How about weeks? So if we want to say Monday, we simply put Xin Qi at first and then put the number one. Say Monday.
Very good. And then Tuesday, Wednesday.
Okay, so remember, Sunday is the only day that is special that we don't say.
We say or.
Very good.
So how do we ask what day is today?
Very good.
And how do we ask what date is today?
So.
Very good. So how in Chinese literally means what how many months, how many day. Very good.
So as you remember, how do we say a full date and structure in year, month, and then the day? So we say it from big to small.
Very good. Then remember the year we don't say, for example, today we don't say 2025 or 2026.
We say it one by one.
Say.
We say it one by one.
So in this. In this lesson, the most important is listen to carefully to the word order and also the number pronunciation.
Okay, so now you can say things like what date is tomorrow and tomorrow is.
Or when is your birthday?
My birthday is.
And what day is that?
Very good. February 1st. Okay, so now it's your turn to practice.
Okay, so please write one sentence using today's structure. For example, tell me the date today that you're watching this video right now. What is the date today for you?
So please leave your sentence down in the comment section down below. And then we can practice to say it out loud.
