[00:00:00] Speaker A: Foreign hello, everyone.
Welcome back to Hanyu Chinese Podcast. This is the sixth episode of our HSK1 Masterclass.
So very welcome to see you all again here.
Today for this lesson, we're going to dive into something super useful, that is the word.
So when you start learning Chinese, you might have heard people saying like, so people keep repainting this.
What does this means?
And then later on, we're going to look into a word that is also really useful, that is which means in or at.
So let's get started. Like always, let's start with a video first.
Foreign.
[00:01:27] Speaker B: Hello, everyone, I'm Alex and today I'm giving the class from Hangzhou.
Today we'll learn two things. How to form the possessive and the preposition in or at.
To form the possessive pronoun, we need the preposition the.
With the preposition de, we transform an article or a personal pronoun into a possessive pronoun.
For example, do you remember what does mean?
Very well? It's the personal pronoun I.
But when we add the preposition D, I.e. wade, it turns into the positive my.
The same works with the rest of the personal you, he, we, you, and they.
So how would you say that is my father?
The correct answer is we will also learn the preposition for in and at, which is pronounced.
The use is the same as in English, only that the word order changes a little.
Let's see a few examples.
For example, how would you say where do you work?
It literally is you at where? Work.
How would you say it?
Another example, I work in the hospital.
How would you say it? A literal translation is I in hospital work.
Very good.
But there's more. The character has another use.
It has the same use as the verb to be at.
I say goodbye from Hangzhou. What a large lake. Bye.
[00:04:10] Speaker A: Very good. So thank you, Alex. Okay, so everyone, did you guys remember what we see in the video?
So let's do a little recap.
So first let's see, how do you say mine, Mine.
Right, you put and then after.
After.
Very good. And how do you say yours?
Very good.
Good.
And then his or hers.
Very good.
Okay, so this is for mine, yours, his or hers. And then when you want to talk about the things, for example, my father, you put after the.
So my father was a baba.
My mother was the mama, my cat was the mao.
So your sister.
So the other important word that we learned in the video was you use it for a location.
So remember how we asked, where do you work?
Very good.
So to answer this question, also you Take out the which means where.
And you put your answer, the location, in this right position so you don't change the structure.
So the correct answer is, for example, I work in the school.
Good.
And if you want to say I work in the hospital.
Okay, and then let's do something a little bit advanced. How do you combine these two sentences?
For example, my brother works in the hospital.
How do you say this?
Very good.
So very good. Okay, so you use the subject and then you change it into my brother.
And so you have the full sentence.
And then at.
And then location.
The verb always puts in the end.
Very good. Okay, so now it's your turn. Please make us a sentence using or.
Or even better, combine these two words in one sentence. And please leave us a comment down in the comment section down below. We will be very happy to see your answers and we will talk it together. We can review it for you. So please leave us a comment and practice speaking it out loud.
