[00:00:00] Speaker A: Foreign welcome back to another episode of Han Yi Chinese Podcast. I'm Emily, your host today. So this is the second episode of the HSK1 Masterclass. In this episode, you will see something that is very useful, something that you will need to use right away when you arrive in China. And that is how to introduce yourself. How do you say your name? Or how to ask someone's name. So as always, let's start with the video first. [00:01:04] Speaker B: Ni hao. I'm Luai and today I'll give the lesson from Qintao. We will learn how to ask what is your name? First of all, in Chinese, birds don't have any conjugation. We always use the infinitive form. It is the context which tells who is doing the action or when is what's done. For example, let's see the question what's your name? Literally means you call what name? Something else to keep in mind is that in Chinese we place the answer where the interrogative pronoun of the question was. In this case, the answer would be. Let's see the next question. Just like the previous questions, the answer goes where the interrogative question was located. This phrase is very useful because a family surname is very important to Chinese people. An interesting detail is that the surname goes before the name. In this case, it would be Luo Lihua. This is all for today. I say goodbye from Tsintao, where a popular bee is produced. Next time you eat at a Chinese restaurant at Fura Qingdao Pizza. See you next time. [00:02:47] Speaker A: Very good. So before we continue, if you like this video so far, please give us a like and subscribe to our channel. We have podcasts in all kinds of different platforms in YouTube, Spotify and Apple podcasts and so more so you can share with anyone who is also trying to learn Chinese and listen to our podcast on whatever platform that suits you. So let's do a little recap for what we have seen in the video. So the first one, do you remember how to ask someone's name? Very good. And do you remember how to respond it? Very good. Emily. Emily. So that is, I'm called Emily. And then how do we ask someone's surname? Good. And how do you respond it? Very good. [00:04:23] Speaker B: Lin. [00:04:25] Speaker A: Very good. And like we saw in the video, in Chinese culture, we put our surname in front of the name. So for example, my name is Emily. Lin in Chinese would be Lin Emily. So another extra tip, that is, if you want to say your full name together, you could either say Emily or if you want sound more formal, you can say Emily. So that is to separate the surname and the name. Very good. So at last we welcome everyone to leave us a comment. If you like our podcast, if you have any suggestion, and then we can do a little practice, that is you can write your name down below in Chinese. We would love to see the name that you have chosen for yourself in Chinese. So if you like this podcast, don't forget to leave us a like. And if you have interest in having a Chinese course and whatever, it's a one on one course or a group class, feel free to check out our website, hanyechinesego.com we have all kinds of different courses and you can even have a free trial. So that's it for today. Thank you guys so much. We'll see you guys in the next episode. Sa.
