[00:00:00] Speaker A: Foreign. Welcome back to our HSK1 master class with your favorite Chinese school, Hanyu Chinese School. So this is our 16th episode already. In this episode we are going to see something about health. So it is very important to tell someone that if you're feeling good, if you're feeling a bit ill, when you're traveling in China. Am I right? So this is episode that will help you a lot. And also we're gonna see a little bit about the verb again. So please pay a close attention to this episode. Like always, let's always start with a short video first. Get started. [00:01:12] Speaker B: Hello everyone. I'm Alex and today I'm teaching from the Forbidden City in Beijing. We will learn how to have a conversation on the phone in Chinese. We will also talk about health and learn a resultative complement for the verb can, which means to see, to speak on the phone. It's important to learn the word way, since that is how all phone conversations start. In Chinese. It's similar to hello in English. When answering the phone, of course, you will have to pay close attention to what the other person says. That's the hardest part. To talk about health, we use the word shanti, which means both health and body. An important reminder is that in Chinese, elderly and sick people are highly respected. That's why when we talk to them, it's best to use the word which means madam or miss and which means sir. Health can be described as good or bad. The only thing you must remember is that if the health is very good, we say, but if it's not that, well, we don't say. We say, When you want to give somebody an advice, you can use the verb yao. That can be translated as to want or have to, to give suggestions. It is an auxiliary verb that always goes before the main verb. Let's see an example. You have to drink tea in the morning. Let's practice together. How would you say you must eat fruit? Very well. And lastly, in this lesson, we'll learn a result complement of the verb to see that gives us a subtle difference in meaning. As we learnt before. The verb can, which means to see, to watch or to look. As an example, we say which means to watch a movie. But if we add the result complement to the verb can, we will always translate it as to see something specific. As an example, to see a person. Let's see, one case I was looking through the window, what verb would you use? It would be can without the resultative. But if you say, while I was looking through the window, I saw your friend in that Case, you should say, since we are seeing something specific, we have to use the result complement. But don't spend too long looking out the window. I say goodbye from the Forbidden City, which was built over 600 years ago. [00:04:29] Speaker A: Okay, very nice. So let's take a quick. Let's do a quick recap about what we have just learned, shall we? So the first one, remember when answering the phone, we always say way, way, second tone. Okay, so it doesn't really mean anything. It's just a syllable that we say when we're answering the phone. And then we have talking about health, remember, that means body, shen ti. But in this case, it indicates health. So we can say, for example, if my health is good, I'm feeling well, we could say. But if we're not feeling quite well, we could say. And last, if we're saying that I'm feeling very ill, I'm feeling really bad, we could say. Okay, so let's take a look. Remember last episode, we talk about dough and hi. These two words. Okay, so how would you say this sentence? Are you all. How are you guys? How are you guys? All good? Are you guys feeling all good? How would you say this? So remember, we have the word to. So where would you put it? Okay, let's check the answer. So the answer is. So we put the in front of. So are your health. Are you guys all good? Are you guys health? All good. Okay, so then if someone is feeling ill, and then you have to tell them that, oh, you need to go see the doctor. Right? Remember when we learned that video we put before the verb. So we could say, You have to go see the doctor. Let's take a look about this. So remember, we put it before the verb that indicates that you need to do something. Say you need to drink water. Or we can put also before the verb we have, which means you need to eat more. And last but not least, how would you say you need to eat fruits? Very good. Okay, and last but not least, remember when we learned in the video that we have and did you guys understand what's the difference between them? So remember that when we say can, for example, we could say a lot of things that I'm watching a tv, I'm watching a movie, I am visiting my parents. Kan, can means a lot of things. So let's take book as an example. If I say or which means I'm reading a book, I read a book. Okay, but what does it mean when we say so in this case, for example, my book is on the table, we could say oh I see my book that is on the table. I see it existing. I found it. I see it. It's existing on the table. So simply means that we see something particularly okay so that is it for today.
