[00:00:00] Speaker A: Foreign. [00:00:14] Speaker B: Welcome Back to our HSK1 Master Class podcast. So today we have a brand new lesson talking about the time. You guys know how to greet by the timing. For example, good morning, good afternoon, good evening, and how do we talk about the time? What time is it? It's three o'clock in the afternoon. So as always, let's start with a short video first. [00:00:47] Speaker A: Ni Hao. I'm Alex and today I'm giving the class from Shenzhen. Today we will learn how to greet people and how to save time. In Chinese, do you remember how to say hello? Very good. Ni hao. It literally means you good. So to greet somebody, all we need to do is just replace the. For morning, afternoon or evening, it is literally saying something like morning good. How would you say then good morning? The answer is and good afternoon. And how about good evening? In this class, we will also spend a few minutes to talk about hours and minutes. We will learn how to ask what time is it? How would you say then what time is it? Now? To answer the question in Chinese, we use the question particle, which as you remember, means how many? So a literal translation would be now how many hour? How would you say it? The answer is, as you can see, everything follows the same structure. And so to reply, we change the question particle for the hour that corresponds. So how would you say now it's eight o'. Clock. Excellent. An important thing is, as you can see here, we don't use the verb to be when telling the time. It is omitted. And how would you say half past? The answer is. And how about it's 2:37? Very well. Liang Dian San Shiqi Feng Zhong. As you see, we don't use er to indicate number two. In Chinese, we use number two only when it is the ordinal number, like when we count or say telephone numbers. However, if the number two is followed by a noun such as our, in this case, we always use lian. Great, We've already learned how to say the time. Easy, right? Well, this has been today's class. I say goodbye from Shenzhen, one of China's most modern cities. It's so cool. See you next time. [00:04:17] Speaker B: Okay, great job everyone. So before we continue this video, if you like our video as always, please please give us a like and subscribe to our channel. Okay, so let's back to the lesson. Do you guys remember how to greet by the timing? So for good morning we have. And for the good afternoon. And the last good evening. Very nice. So remember, for morning, afternoon and the last one, the night or evening. Very nice. Okay, so how do we ask what time is it now? Very nice. And then when we want to reply to it, we simply change the how many to the answer to the number. Right? So for example, Very nice. Now it's 10 o'. Clock. So we don't use the military timing. We don't. For example, when it is 10 in the night, we do not say no, this is too formal. So what do we do? We say it's 10 o' clock in the night, remember? How do we say in the night? Very good. So we put it before the timing. So for example, now it's 10 o' clock in the night. We would say. Okay, very nice. Okay, say and how would you say now is now is 2:30 in the afternoon. Very good. So means half. So of course you can always say. Which means minutes. Okay, very nice. Very nice. So remember the structure. Now then the number plus the end which means hour. And then the timing also number plus the timing which means minute. Or you could just go with like 30. Very nice. Okay, so in the end of this class, it's your turn to write. Try to write what time is it now? In your time zone, wherever you are, please write a sentence in the comment section down below telling me what time is it in where you are. And please be more specific. What day of the timing it is, Is it or. Okay, very nice. So please feel free to leave your sentence in the comment section down below and practice to say it out loud like always. So if you like our classes, please take a look in our website hanyuchineschool.com we have a lot of good, good classes going on. We have one on one courses. We have group classes.
